You are at the ESGF-NODE.IPSL.UPMC.FR node |
The Earth System Grid Federation (ESGF) is an international collaboration consisting in federated data centres that enable access to the largest archive of climate data world-wide. It powers most global climate change research, notably assessments by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
You are here at the the Pierre Simon Laplace Institute (IPSL) ESGF node. This portal allows you to find, select and download data files held in the globally distributed ESGF archives. This portal is an interface for users to access model data that are distributed in several data centers, also called data nodes. The portal itself does not host any data. Visit https://esgf.llnl.gov to get an insight into our design and mission.
The Pierre Simon Laplace Institute (IPSL) is a research federation from the National Centre of Scientific Research (CNRS) in close relationship with the Atomic Energy Commission (CEA), the Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines University and Sorbonne University (SU). The IPSL counts 9 laboratories and about 1,400 researches in climate science.
The ESPRI-MOD working team is part of climate modelling section of the IPSL. A large part of our workload consist in operational implementation and strengthening of the ESGF, coordinating its policy and all its related services. We act as part of the infrastructure for the European Network of the Earth System modelling project (IS-ENES).
New server side processing capabilities
Tired of downloading tons of model data? Would you like free computing resources to analise CMIP big data?
IPSL is part of the European IS-ENES Infrastructure. New services are developed within the project to provide users with server-side processing capabilities. It means your analyses can be performed near the data at the IS-ENES HPC centers and you will donwload the results of your analyses and avoid the heavy data download of raw model data. This is especially beneficial for users with low network bandwidth or limited access to high performance facilities.
Please visit our new server-side services:
The following projects require an ESGF Account (create account) and some also require a Group Registration (see links in table below) to access their data.

If you do not find want you are looking for, enable 'Show All Replicas' in the faceted search engine to increase the chances of finding a suitable federated node in the grid that hosts the data of your interest. Please, visit the Data Nodes Status to find the nodes that are down.
For more information about the projects, please use the links on the right (under "Child Projects").
The facetted data search is accessible from the "Search and Download Data" widget on the right of the page through the "Search with options" link.
Learn the full capabilities of the ESGF service by visiting the User Tutorial and FAQs.
Find the model documentation at the Earth System Documentation ES-DOC portal. As part of the ES-DOC ecosystem, the Errata Service centralizes timely information about known issues of ESGF data. Look up an issue here. If the errata you found is not there, please write to the modelling group, the contact information is in the header of the NetCDF file. For CMIP6 data, click on "Show Citation" when finding the data in the faceted search.
If you want to meet the community and be informed of downtime notifications and updates, please register to the emailing list here.
